The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
A Biblical View of Success in Instruction
Nehemiah 9:20
And Thou didst give Thy good Spirit to instruct them,
A Brief History of God's Instruction
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.
You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.
You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Exodus 24:12
Now the \Lord\ said to Moses, "Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandment which I have written for their instruction."
Psalms 78:1-8
Listen, O my people, to my instruction; Incline
your ears to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old,
Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us.
We will not conceal them from their children, But tell to the generation
to come the praises of the \Lord,\ And His strength and His wondrous works
that He has done.
For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel,
Which He commanded our fathers, That they should teach them to their
children,
That the generation to come might know, {even} the children {yet} to be
born, {That} they may arise and tell {them} to their children,
That they should put their confidence in God, And not forget the works
of God, But keep His commandments,
And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A
generation that did not prepare its heart, And whose spirit was not faithful
to God.
Deuteronomy 30:5,6
"And the \Lord\ your God will bring you into the land which your fathers
possessed, and you shall possess it; and He will prosper you and multiply
you more than your fathers.
"Moreover the \Lord\ your God will circumcise your heart and the heart
of your descendants, to love the \Lord\ your God with all your heart and
with all your soul, in order that you may live.
Joshua 1:8
"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall
meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to
all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and
then you will have success.
Psalms 1:1-3
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
#Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the \Lord\, And in His law he meditates
day and night.
And he will be like a tree {firmly} planted by streams of water, Which
yields its fruit in its season, And its leaf does not wither; And in
whatever he does, he prospers.
Psalms 25:12-14
Who is the man who fears the \Lord\? He will instruct him in the way he
should choose.
His soul will abide in prosperity, And his descendants will inherit the
land.
The secret of the \Lord\ is for those who fear Him, And He will make
them know His covenant.
Malachi 2:5,6
"My covenant with him was {one of} life and peace, and I gave them to
him {as an object of} reverence; so he revered Me, and stood in awe of My
name.
"True instruction was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found on
his lips; he walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many
back from iniquity.
Psalms 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will
counsel you with My eye upon you.
Genesis 39:3
Now his master saw that the \Lord\ was with him (Joseph) and {how} the
\Lord\ caused all that he did to prosper in his hand.
II Chronicles 26:5
And he (Uzziah) continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had
understanding through the vision of God; and as long as he sought the
\Lord,\ God prospered him.
II Chronicles 31:21
And every work which he (Hezekiah) began in the service of the house of God
in law and in commandment, seeking his God, he did with all his heart and
prospered.
Daniel 6:28
So this Daniel enjoyed success in the reign of Darius and in the reign
of Cyrus the Persian.
Romans 15:4
For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our
instruction, that through perseverance and the encouragement of the
Scriptures we might have hope.
The Holy Spirit as Instructor
John 14:26
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,
He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said
to you.
I John 2:27
And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you,
and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches
you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has
taught you, you abide in Him.
Parent/Child Attitudes for Successful Instruction
I Timothy 1:5
But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good
conscience and a sincere faith.
Proverbs 1:8,9
Hear, my son, your father's instruction, And do not forsake your
mother's teaching;
Indeed, they are a graceful wreath to your head, And ornaments about
your neck.
Proverbs 6:20-24
My son, observe the commandment of your father, And do not forsake the
teaching of your mother;
Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck.
When you walk about, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will
watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.
For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is light; And reproofs
for discipline are the way of life,
To keep you from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the
adulteress.
Proverbs 4:13
Take hold of instruction; do not let go. Guard her, for she is your
life.
Proverbs 9:8-12
Do not reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you, Reprove a wise man, and he
will love you.
Give {instruction} to a wise man, and he will be still wiser, Teach a
righteous man, and he will increase {his} learning.
The fear of the \Lord\ is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of
the Holy One is understanding.
For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added
to you.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you alone
will bear it.
Proverbs 15:31-33
He whose ear listens to the life-giving reproof Will dwell among the
wise.
He who neglects discipline despises himself, But he who listens to
reproof acquires understanding.
The fear of the \Lord\ is the instruction for wisdom, And before honor
{comes} humility. #
Proverbs 28:13
He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who
confesses and forsakes {them} will find compassion.
Proverbs 5:12-14
And you say, "How I have hated instruction! And my heart spurned
reproof!
"And I have not listened to the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my
ear to my instructors!
"I was almost in utter ruin In the midst of the assembly and
congregation."
Proverbs 28:24-26
He who robs his father or his mother, And says, "It is not a
transgression," Is the companion of a man who destroys.
An arrogant man stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the \Lord\ will
prosper.
He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But he who walks wisely will
be delivered.
Psalms 35:27,28
Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; And let
them say continually, "The \Lord\ be magnified, Who delights in the
prosperity of His servant."
And my tongue shall declare Thy righteousness {And} Thy praise all day
long.
