Questions to Think About

Woman thinking
  1. What are your motives/reasons for home educating?

  2. What goals do you have for your home-educated child and yourself as parent-teacher (this particular "school year" and the future)?

  3. What is your educational philosophy (possible help may come from Raymond & Dorothy Moore's or Greg Harris' writings)?

  4. Commit this decision to the Lord and spend time in prayer.

Financial Considerations

  1. Curriculum: the amount can vary considerably depending on child/family needs, from very minimal ($50 or less) to hundreds of dollars.

  2. Legal coverage: Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) is highly recommended. Annual membership: $ 100.00. A 15% discount is offered for CHESCA members - contact a nurture group leader for details.

  3. Support groups: Christian Home Educators of Ohio (CHEO) is our statewide group. Annual membership: $30.00. CHESCA - see registration form and nurture group info for details.

  4. Field trips & classes: varies depending on how many free and paying activities are included.

  5. Classroom materials: can be basic and gradually added as time and money permit (educational games can be included here).

  6. Books & workshops: state convention, informational meetings, conferences, etc., to enhance home-school experience.
